Sports Academy George
To use sport as a tool to select, disciple, and raise up a new generation of Christian leaders that will advance the Kingdom of God, in the underprivileged communities of George, South Africa.
What we do
We use sport as a tool to connect and disciple young people, providing them with opportunities for a better future through the coaching, mentorship and career guidance incorporated into our programmes. We want our students to be the best version of themselves and so we strive to develop them spiritually, physically and academically.
SAG has been operating within the townships of George for ten years and we have seen some incredible results in terms of the success of the young people who have completed our programme. Unfortunately, opportunities for further education and full-time employment for the under-privileged in South Africa are limited with only 1 in 8 going on to University or full-time employment. We have seen twelve of our students go on to further education during our time here and over sixty of our students find full-time employment. Whilst we are proud of these statistics, we know that more can be done and we feel that the provision of a good education at an early age is the obvious next step.
To select students each year that are young, talented sports men and women and through the highest standard of sports coaching, competition and mentorship develop them physically, mentally and spiritually.
To place all students in local churches and involve them in cell groups, one on one mentorship, leadership studies and Saturday night youth club.
The provision of free education as a school defined in the South African Schools Act of 1996 to the poor and needy.
The provision of scholarships and bursaries for those in further education and the development of partnerships with local businesses to provide job opportunites for every student that graduates SAG.
